The goal of the week long program is to reinforce and improve proper collection and handling practices that contribute to a sustainable Rio Negro fishery.

The program is being attended by Rio Negro fisherfolk (piabeiros and piabeiras), exporters, Brazilian government officials and Federal University of Amazonas staff.

Participants focused on basic fish anatomy, underlying causes of stress, fish nutrition, water quality, fish health and identifying parasites.
